Glasgow Artists’ Moving Image Studios SCIO is a new charitable organisation established in 2019 by visual arts curators Lydia Honeybone (Queer Classics) and Shireen Taylor (The Hidden Noise). The organisation was set up in order to develop dedicated screening facilities, workspaces and professional/educational development for artists working in moving image and other time-based practices. Charitable status was awarded in July 2020.
Since October 2019 GAMIS have been carrying out a Feasibility Study to determine the viability and long term sustainable use of the former Govanhill Picture House on Bankhall St, Glasgow. Exploring options for the building to be returned to use as a public facing community arts facility, and most importantly, to identify the steps required to take the unique B-listed 1920s former cinema off the Buildings at Risk Register.
