I’m an artist and designer based in the southside of Glasgow, Scotland. I specialise in creating artistic interiors with bespoke, hand-painted and upcycled furniture. I also create surface design for interiors and I paint sea and landscapes. Julia Clare Interiors was established as an independent design studio in 2018 to bridge fine art and design in the interior space, vintage and contemporary. My work is inspired by the multi tonal polychromy and textures found in nature and I use gold to explore negative space.
Each piece is tailor-made with artisan details. I transform ubiquitous and vintage pieces into objets d’art using layers of effects and highlights, bringing character to home interiors which is evocative and meaningful. I enjoy reviving and re-imagining vintage pieces; my work is ecological, sustainable and conscientious. With a penchant for gold leaf, I work to achieve a quality finish with fine attention to detail, colour and texture.
I have designed two elegant and uplifting collections of wall paper and textile designs with an ethereal and multilayered quality which invite the viewer to explore its detail.
In addition to my commissions and interior design work, I collaborate with a number of local art galleries, art boutiques and designers in Scotland and exhibit some of my work through art exhibitions and events such as the Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show. I work with the Seagull Art Gallery and the Studio Fine Art Company. Some of my work can also be found in the The Shop Of Interest art boutique in Finnieston. I am also a professional member of the House of Upcycling; the UK’s leading independent authority in premium upcycling for interiors, challenging the design world to reduce the amount of waste materials.
I have a degree in art history from the University of Glasgow and I am currently studying towards a MDes in Interior Design at The Glasgow School of Art.
