Maria trained in Acting in Portugal and Contemporary Performance in Scotland. Her performance is intimate, surrealistic, provocative and at times humorous. She explores femininity, mass-media and pop culture. She questions the audience’s role and the artist’s function within performance art by curating non-hierarchical pieces.
Her facilitation work is best described as experimental and participatory focusing on social justice matters within educational contexts. She works alongside educators and young people using play pedagogy as a way to foster agency. Her particular focus is using creative facilitation as stimulus to develop autonomy, critical thinking, empathy and attainment.
