The Piano Project CIC was incorporated in 2017 and operates from accessible premises in the south of Glasgow where: people can meet, piano decoration workshops are facilitated, music lessons are delivered and piano donations are stored, repaired, tuned and freely accessed by the public. Our work helps people: develop connections, nurture social networks, build strong relationships, reduce social isolation and increase resilience while nurturing musicianship and artistic expression. We create new opportunities for spontaneous playfulness and helping transform and ‘normalise’ people’s experience and expectations of public space.
We describe ‘Glasgow Piano City’ as: “The Place to Be – The Thing to Do” and our project makes a difference to the stability, well being and mental health of a large number of people around the city in everyday life. Being able to play pianos in public is sometimes the only thing that “keeps me sane” as we are often told.
